Behind the Scenes: How I Make My Crochet Plushies & Source My Crystals ✨

Hey there, friend! 🌙✨ Welcome to the very first Crystal Moon Arts blog post — I'm so excited you're here!

I'm Nadia, the maker, dreamer, and yarn-tangler behind Crystal Moon Arts. If you've ever held one of my crochet plushies or unwrapped a crystal bundle and felt a little spark of joy, this post is for you. Today I'm pulling back the curtain and showing you exactly how the magic gets made. 🧶💎

How Crystal Moon Arts Began 

Crystal Moon Arts started the way most handmade businesses do. Actually in my case my ADHD hyper fixation kicked in and zero idea what I was getting into! I started small by having items out at work. My co workers there loved crystals as much as I did. And during winter my scarves and headbands kept them warm. As I left my traditional job to care for myself and family I took to branching out in what I made. Let’s try plushies! Oh did I fall in love with making dragons. Then for Christmas my family got me a circuit so had to try out all the things. Made some of my art into stickers. My kiddos loved that. They decorated their headphones and notebooks. 

So my shop expanded a little more. Because my brain tends to bounce from creative idea to another I found plushies, art and crystals to be a consistent rotation. But that leaves you all with a wide variety of well my whimsy. 

🧶 How I Make My Crochet Plushies

Let's talk plushies, because honestly? They're my favorite thing to make.

Each handmade crochet plushie starts with a pattern. I’m still learning how to make my own pattern. Kuddos to those who design patterns. It’s a talent and art form. When I look for patterns I first go with what I find amazing. Hence why I have dragons, moths or the big whale shark. I want to enjoy what I make and I hope you all feel the excitement in the plushies. 

From there, it's stitch by stitch, row by row. Crocheting a plushie can take anywhere from a few hours to a full day depending on the size and complexity. My Giant Crochet Whale Shark is a labor of love , that big ocean friend takes serious dedication! Once the pieces are crocheted, I stuff them, sew them together, and add all the little details that make each one unique. My whale sharks have customs painted eyes. Usually during holidays I’ll get special eyes too add to the pieces. 

No two plushies are exactly alike — that's the beauty of handmade.

💎 How I Source My Crystals

Crystals are another huge part of what makes Crystal Moon Arts feel like Crystal Moon Arts. I take sourcing seriously. I look for crystals that are beautiful, interesting, and feel genuinely special when you hold them. Also looking where they come from. I work with a wholeseller in Texas. They actually do a lot of the cutting and carving there. Mines are ethical and that makes me feel so much better. Not only am I working with people who equally as me but we get giddy when new crystals are shown.

I carefully select each stone, thinking about variety, energy, and that little "ooh!" factor when you open your package. My Mystery Bundle Crystal Bag is one of my favorite offerings because it's like sending a little surprise is unique.
